“Hi, my name is Caitlyn, and I am a first year PhD student with the Nutritional Physiology Research group here at the University of Exeter. I decided to continue my studies in Exeter following the completion of my BSc in Sport and Exercise Medical Sciences and my masters in sports medicine based here at the university. I decided upon Exeter due to the perfect location, offering a good-sized city centre but with incredible connections to so many beautiful beaches and thousands of walks. As someone who loves the outdoors, this was a major factor influencing my decision to study at the University of Exeter.

During my undergraduate degree, I completed a Professional Training Year with the Epidemiology and Public Health Research Group at the university. This experience was invaluable for exposing me to independent research and helped me develop many vital skills that I employ day-to-day during my PhD… I was lucky to have an incredibly supportive, enthusiastic supervisor who showed me the excitement of pursuing a career in research.

Due to the experiences offered to me during my undergraduate and master’s degree at Exeter, and the support received from the academic staff, I possess the research skills required to competently carry out my own independent research. Not only this, but it has inspired me to pursue teaching at higher education, in the hopes that I can pass on my knowledge and enthusiasm for health and wellbeing.”
