“I’m from India, but I was raised in Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania and went to an international school there. I left in ninth grade and went to a boarding school in India, so I’ve done the IB system throughout. I think going to an international school really helped me prepare for university, especially being around different types of people and different curriculums. It meant that when I came to university, I was more confident with writing essays, understanding the mark scheme, referencing and citations, and interacting with people in general, which really helped me transition.
My school in India had representatives from the University of Exeter come in and talk about life at the University, and meeting them really motivated me to apply. Exeter was my first choice. You can do so much research online, but that mainly focuses on the educational side. Speaking to the representative helped me understand both the academic and social aspects, including the 200 plus societies and the opportunity to start your own with support from the Guild, which felt like great preparation for getting involved.
I also did a Foundation programme at INTO, which helped me settle in, get to know the campus and meet people, so I felt prepared and ready to start my degree.”
